The Midland Rotary Auction was first held in February 1979, broadcasted over the radio. Ensuing years in the early days added broadcasting over the television and bids were received by telephone, hand written and posted on a board! Initially meant to be a one year project, the auction has continued to run on an annual basis for 40 years now! In the late 80's, a locally developed state-of-the-art computer program was added to track bids and instantly display them to the television audience. Eventually, the auction moved to being online and on TV while continuing to take telephone bids. More recently, the auction has been entirely online.
Our system now lists all items by category, provides imagery of the items, takes bids online and will even notify you automatically by email when you've been outbid so that you can battle it out with competing bidders. It's a fun online experience and is a chance to get some great deals!
The auctioned items have all been graciously donated by businesses, organizations and individuals in the community. We're currently out in the community collecting items. If your business has yet to be approached and you'd like to contribute an item, please contact us! Thank you to all donors for your support!!
100% of net proceeds from the auction support our community and international charitable causes. Over the past 40 years, the auction has poured more than $1,000,000 back into the community resulting in community benefits like the Rotary Trail, the pavilions on the Midland Town Dock, the performance stage in Little Lake Park, donations to the Georgian Bay General Hospital, the Midland Cultural Centre, Community Living Huronia, the YMCA, CSC CHIGAMIK CHC, the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre, and countless other improvements to our community and to our way of life.
This year's auction will be open online for 2 weeks, closing at 9:00pm on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
